FAQ
Are the benefits of massage applicable to
anyone? In other words, will massage benefit
anybody, regardless of medical or physical
condition?
Massage can help in most pain conditions as long
as they are soft tissue related. This means muscle
or tendon conditions. It is always best to consult
your doctor if you have any unusual condition that
has complications.
Are you able to target the
areas of the musculature that need the most
attention?
Of course. If you want just a part of your, back
lets say, worked on I can focus the whole massage
around that problem area. Generally this would be
more treatment oriented and not very relaxing but
it can be done. It is all up to you.
How long does a typical
session take?
I try to book hour (50mn massage) appointments.
Some people don't have an hour to spare but need
to get in, so in this case I can go to 30 minutes
for those who have a more hectic schedule. Some
like a longer session.
Does it hurt?
Sometimes the massage can be uncomfortable. I try
not to push discomfort on my clients if at all
possible. If there is a certain technique that has
to be done, I make sure that my client knows what
is going to happen and then I let them have
control over the pressure that I use on them. I
like to use a pain scale of 1 - 10 (with 1 being
no pain and 10 being excruciating); in the scale I
like them to be at a 5 - 6 for these techniques to
work. For the most part massage is painless.
What types of massage do you perform in your
practice?
Please refer to my massage
page and for more information.
What are the costs involved?
Please visit my rates
page for all pricing.
Could my medical insurance cover the costs?
This all depends on your individual plan. Check
the insurance page
for more information.
Where Will My Massage or Bodywork Session Take
Place?
Your massage session will take place in a warm,
comfortable, quiet room. Soft music will be played
to help you relax. You will lie on a table
especially designed for your comfort.
Must I Be Completely Undressed?
Most massage is traditionally performed with the
client unclothed; however, you may decide what
amount of clothing you prefer to wear for your own
comfort. You will be properly covered during the
session. With the sports and on-site massages you
are fully clothed.
Will the Practitioner Be Present When I
Disrobe?
I will leave the room while you undress, relax
onto the table, and cover yourself with a clean
sheet. I allow a few minutes before I return from
washing my hands to start the massage.
Will I Be Covered During the Session?
You will be properly draped at all times to keep
you warm and comfortable. Only the area being
worked on will be exposed. If at any time you feel
uncomfortable please tell me and I will either
change what I am doing or skip that part of the
massage all together.
What Parts of My Body Will Be Massaged?
You and I will discuss the desired outcome of your
session. This will determine which parts of your
body require massage. A typical full body session
will include work on your back, arms, legs, feet,
hands, head, neck, and shoulders. You will not be
touched on or near your genitals (male or female)
or breasts (female). My massage is completely
non-sexual.
Will Lubricant Be Used?
I use oil or lotion to permit your muscles to be
worked on without causing excessive friction to
the skin. The lubricants used are made to hydrate
the skin and be readily absorbed. I used high
quality organic oils (jojoba, grapeseed) which I
blend with high quality essential oils (non scented also availlable).
What Should I Do During the Massage or Bodywork
Session?
Make yourself comfortable. I will either gently
move you or tell you what is needed throughout the
session (such as lifting your arm). Many people
just close their eyes and completely relax. Others
like to talk during their session. Feel free to
ask me questions about massage and bodywork in
general or about anything you would like to talk
about.
How Will I Feel After the Massage?
Most people feel very relaxed. Some experience
freedom from long-term aches and pains developed
from tension or repetitive activity. After an
initial period of feeling slowed down, people
often experience increased energy, heightened
awareness, and greater productivity that can last
for days. Since toxins are released from your soft
tissues during a massage, it is recommended you
drink plenty of water following your massage.
What Are the Benefits of Massage?
Massage and bodywork can help release chronic
muscular tension and pain, improve circulation,
increase joint flexibility, reduce mental and
physical fatigue and stress, promote faster
healing of injured muscular tissue, improve
posture, and reduce blood pressure. Massage and
bodywork is also known to promote better sleep,
improve concentration, reduce anxiety, and create
an overall sense of well-being.
Are There Any Medical Conditions That Would
Make Massage or Bodywork Inadvisable?
Yes. That's why it's imperative that before you
begin your session, the practitioner ask general
health questions. It is very important that you
inform the practitioner of any health problems or
medications you are taking. If you are under a
doctor's care, it is strongly advised that you
receive a written recommendation for massage or
bodywork prior to any session. Many practitioners
may require a recommendation or approval from your
doctor.
What kind of training have you had and what
certifications do you hold?
I graduated from Brenneke School of Massage. I am
Nationally certified and a member of the A.M.T.A.
How long have you been practicing massage?
I have been in practice full time since 2001.
Do you give discounts for referring people?
Yes. I have a referral discount; for every 3
patients you send me, you get a massage for
free and they get
20% off their first
massage!
What kind of payment do you accept? cash,
check, credit card?
At this time
I accept cash and checks. I will soon accept credit cards through
secured online process.
